A Georgian Soul by the Sea: Remembering Redjeb Jordania

I want to share the story of a remarkable man who once lived right here in Springs — a fellow Georgian, Redjeb Jordania. He and his wife, Peggy, made their home in this beautiful area.

Redjeb led an extraordinary life: he was a musician, composer, teacher, writer, and even a boatbuilder. Born in exile in Paris, he was the son of Noe Jordania, the first president of the Democratic Republic of Georgia. Despite growing up far from his homeland, Redjeb carried Georgia in his heart wherever he went.

He lived a full and inspiring life — teaching languages and philosophy at several American Universities, composing music, and writing wonderful books. His love for the sea, art, and learning touched everyone who knew him.

I had the honor of meeting him several times at Georgian community events at the Consulate of Georgia and elsewhere. We often spoke on the phone and had long, meaningful conversations. His warmth, humor, and wisdom stayed with me.

Perhaps some of you remember seeing him — tall, gentle, often on his bicycle with his blue denim cap, always smiling.

Redjeb’s story reminds me how rich our community truly is, filled with history, creativity, and people whose lives connect far beyond borders.

With love and gratitude,

Sissy 🌹
