One of the best ways to learn the English language is to read a lot of English materials, such as newspapers and books. I personally start my day reading the newspaper. Reading The New York Times helps me to improve my English and educates my mind to learn new vocabulary and the structure of perfect grammar in sentences. The last book I read in English, Tuesdays with Morrie, was easy to understand and reading the interesting conversations gave me more confidence with improving my reading skills. I have found that reading all kinds of materials, especially newspapers and books, will develop your English skills.
The second way to learn English is by writing often, even though you may make a lot of mistakes. Mistakes will help you learn and grow. I am a professional writer in my language, Georgian, and writing is my passion. I keep trying to write in English because I know practicing more and more will make a difference. I write short stories, long emails and essays for my EAP class. Sometimes, it is hard, but I do not give up. It is very valuable to keep trying. Overall, practicing writing will help you write clear, well-structured texts about complex subjects, and you learn English.
The third way to learn English is by talking in English at home with your family members and outside with your friends. Sometimes, my son and I speak in Georgian at home, and my husband always reminds us, “Guys, speak in English I’m here.” We hear him and start to speak coherently in English. It also helps us to learn more. We catch new words and expand our vocabulary. Practicing speaking in English helps you to learn a useful language for everyday communication. Situations include responding to the news, meeting face-to-face and asking a favor or questions. So, it is very important to speak in English because you become more comfortable with the language.
